The Spin–Spin Problem in Celestial Mechanics

چکیده

We study the dynamics of two homogeneous rigid ellipsoids subject to their mutual gravitational influence. assume that spin axis each ellipsoid coincides with its shortest physical and is perpendicular orbital plane. Due such assumptions, problem planar depends on particular parameters ellipsoids, most notably, equatorial oblateness flattening respect axes. consider models for configuration: while in full model, there a coupling between rotational motions, Keplerian centers mass bodies are constrained move coplanar ellipses. The case, approximation includes spins what we call spin-spin problem, generalization classical spin-orbit problem. In this paper continue investigations [Mis21] by comparing it also model. Beside detailing associated problems, introduce notions standard balanced resonances, which lead us investigate existence periodic quasi-periodic solutions. give qualitative description phase space provide results linear stability solutions problems. conclude providing comparison reference interaction motions.

Gauge freedom in the N-body problem of celestial mechanics

The goal of this paper is to demonstrate how the internal symmetry of the N-body celestial-mechanics problem can be exploited in orbit calculation. We start with summarising research reported in (Efroimsky 2002, 2003; Newman & Efroimsky 2003; Efroimsky & Goldreich 2003) and develop its application to planetary equations in non-inertial frames. This class of problems is treated by the variationo...

The n - Centre Problem of Celestial Mechanics for Large Energies

We consider the classical three-dimensional motion in a potential which is the sum of n attracting or repelling Coulombic potentials. Assuming a non-collinear configuration of the n centres, we find a universal behaviour for all energies E above a positive threshold. Whereas for n = 1 there are no bounded orbits, and for n = 2 there is just one closed orbit, for n ≥ 3 the bounded orbits form a ...
